INTO
DARKNESS were formed in summer 1995 by guitarists Sebastian Laengerer and
Christian Popp. Their intention was to form a death metal band with a maximum
of influences such as (mainly) death-, black-, thrash-, heavy metal and grindcore
beyond any trends, just doing their own thing. After more than one year the
Band gave up the search for musicians to complete the line up. There were neither
motivated nor skillful musicians who could fit in the Band. This problem was
solved by doing vocals and bass by themselves and by programming the drums (and
even some of the bass lines). In march 1997, their self-produced and self-mixed
debut album born out of this situation, "Misfortunal Odes In D-Minor", was released
on tape, only in small numbers (600p.) and got excellent feedback and sold out
only in 2 months. Finally, in early autumn 1997, a bassist was found: Florian
"Floh" Kos joined the band. Session singer J.J. Schork from Heidelbergs black
metal fourpiece GEWEIH (Now IRRLYCHT) completed the recording line-up for the
7 inch EP "Reanimation" that was released exclusively on blue vinyl in January
1998.
In November 1998, INTO DARKNESS re-recorded two songs for different compilations.
One song, "Facetious Torture", was featured on the German underground compilation
"DEATHOPHOBIA VI"(10.000 p.), while the second song "Change Of Course" was released
on french Compilation "Propulsive Symphonies I" (2000p.). These new versions
could be seen as a preview of how the new material would sound like: more brutal
and extreme and also more technical and complex, still with a sense for melody.
Since December 1998 the line up of INTO DARKNESS was completed by american drummer
"Tik" who made the first Gigs possible. From March 1999 on, the Band played
several gigs in germany, and supported CENTINEX (Now DEMONICAL) and NUNSLAUGHTER
on their European "Repulsive Revenge Tour" in September 2000, for 13 eerie dates.
This was a major step ahead for the band's success in Europe. Due to lack of
time, second Guitarist Chris left the band permanently - from there on, the
Band mutated to the powerful Trio that we know today.
In March/April 2001, the band was devastating Europe again, on the self-organized
"Blasphemous Enslavement of Darkness" Tour with slovak deathers DEMENTOR. Sadly
after this Tour drummer Tik left the band due to personal reasons. The band
immediately started working on a demo version of their full length Album "Dysphoria",
to attract the interest of new musicians and Labels. Bassplayer Floh left the
band in 2002 which led to a total stop until November 2002, when he was replaced
by new bassist, Bjoern Daigger (ex-IRONY, ANGUISH, now MAJESTY, R:I:P). Herb
Grimm from pals ANASARCA/EYE SEA did the drums sessionwise, until Chris Merzinsky
(ex-PENETRALIA, MIDNATT SOL, R:I:P:, AHAB) joined in permanently, in January
2003.
April 2003 saw the long awaited recording of the first Album CD "Dysphoria",
wich was never released so far. At this point Bjoern left the Band to join ANGUISH
and was replaced by Bassman Alex Siedler. After two successfull tours with DISILLUSION
and COMMANDER and DEW SCENTED and COMMANDER in Spring and Autumn 2004, drummer
Chris left the Band leading to another critical Gigstop.
By january 2005 Sebastard had again joined forces with first and premier "old
time buddy" drummer Tik to accomplish the current lineup. To completely join
back to the old powerful Lineup, Florian "Floh" Kos joined back on Bassguitar
after a couple of months. This is the current INTO DARKNESS Lineup, showing
the Band back on stages consistently since again almost 2 Years, stronger than
ever!
Remember: The old Lineup is the only Lineup and what doesn´t kill us, makes
us stronger.
